It was a busy yet inspiring first day for Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, filled with early morning interviews, important transition announcements, and several key meetings that marked the beginning of his new chapter in public service.
While there’s much more to share tomorrow about the day’s official work, one of the clear highlights was a warm and engaging lunch with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) at Laliguras Bistro in Jackson Heights.
The two discussed their shared vision for a fairer, stronger, and more inclusive New York — focusing on issues that matter most to the city’s residents, from community empowerment to sustainable growth and equitable opportunities.

“It was an honor to spend part of my first day with my Congresswoman, AOC, right here in Jackson Heights,” Mamdani shared, reflecting on the day’s events. “Our conversation reminded me why we do this work — to build a city that truly serves everyone.”
As his transition progresses, Mayor-elect Mamdani and his team will be sharing more details on policy priorities, community outreach plans, and initiatives aimed at ensuring a transparent and people-centered administration.

Did you know that just a year ago, almost no one knew who Zohran Mamdani was?
When he started his election campaign, he personally went door to door — meeting people in their homes, on the streets, and in local markets, talking to everyone he could.
His journey to becoming Mayor wasn’t easy. His opponents — including the former mayor — had huge amounts of money and even support from the U.S. President.
But on Zohran Mamdani’s side, there was none of that.
In the beginning, when he tried to speak to people, as you can see in some videos, no one was even willing to stop and listen.
Still, he never gave up. He kept going, kept talking, and kept believing.
And today, his hard work and determination have turned him from an unknown name into a leader loved by the people — a true journey from zero to hero.
