The idea of Bagram Airbase did not suddenly occur to the United States; in fact, they had been working on it for several months. Trump himself admitted this and said that one group, however, is still obstructing this matter (i.e., the Taliban). Therefore, Trump has now issued a direct threat, saying that Bagram must be handed back to America at all costs, otherwise be prepared for the consequences.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s Afghan border is continuously plagued by civil strife. Not only that, but Khawaja Asif has even declared Afghanistan as an enemy. Pakistan had already spoken about nominating Trump for the Nobel Prize, so if America needs Pakistan’s help regarding the Bagram base, Pakistan will surely add weight to America’s side.
Pakistan’s neighboring country, Iran, has repeatedly said that regarding the ceasefire with Israel, it fears that Israel might restart the war. If that happens, the importance of Bagram Airbase will increase significantly.
On the other side, Saudi Arabia has historically considered Iran its rival, and Pakistan has already signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia. So, in the face of rising fears of war, what will Pakistan do?
Pakistan will do what it has always done: in case of any aggression against Iran, it will only offer condemnation and moral support—nothing beyond that.
